The Homecoming Space

My Story

Hi, I’m Angeli!

I didn’t grow up knowing I wanted to be a therapist.

Angeli Sareen, MSW, RSW

I was raised in a South Asian household by immigrant parents. They were loving, hardworking, and doing the best they could. Like many families shaped by survival and sacrifice, emotions weren’t always openly talked about. I learned how to adapt early, to read the room and “keep it together”; but not always how to slow down or name what I was feeling.

When my parents divorced during high school, things felt especially shaky. For years, I struggled to fit in. I was awkward, unsure of myself, and quietly questioning what belonging really meant. I did, however, have brothers who truly loved me and were always in my corner. Their support didn’t take away the hard parts, but it mattered more than I realized at the time. Having people who stayed, protected me, and didn’t give up on me felt kind of like having an umbrella in a storm. That experience stayed with me.

It also helped lead me to social work, where I became deeply curious about how we connect, how our early experiences shape us, and how powerful it can be when someone stays with us through the messier parts of life.

I went on to complete my Bachelor of Social Work and then my Master’s at the University of Toronto. And honestly? I often still felt like an imposter. I share that because fear doesn’t disappear just because you’re qualified. Sometimes we feel scared and do the thing anyway. I spent several years working in community mental health with children and families, where I saw how much healing can happen in the presence of safety and support.

During COVID, I opened my virtual private practice: another moment of choosing growth over comfort, with a lot of fear still in the background. What I’ve learned, both personally and professionally, is that our sense of self is always evolving. Healing isn’t about “fixing” yourself. It’s about reconnecting with the parts of you that learned to adapt, protect, or hold everything together on their own.

Therapy with me is a space where you don’t have to have it all figured out. You don’t have to perform or explain yourself perfectly. It’s simply a place to be human, feel supported, and begin at your own pace, finding your way back home to yourself.
